It would be rather easy to take a look at the video for Patrick Wolf’s latest single, The City and dismiss it in an instant as hipster fodder; it’s all nimble, pretty yoof frolicking on a beach, getting their kit off, waving parrots about on their arm, drawing love hearts in the sand with their toes. It’s all a bit reminiscent of a jeans commercial, circa 1993. But it’s all actually rather charming and that’s mostly because the track itself is a perfect piece of pop, with its thudding drums and cheesy sax loops.
Ah youth. For optimum enjoyment of this track, I recommend donning a pair of Wayfarers.
