Best of British: IRN-BRU

IRN-BRU (pronounced Iron Brew), like many icons of Scottish culture, is worn as a badge of fierce national pride north of the border. Made to a carefully guarded secret recipe, allegedly from girders, this radioactive-orange soft drink rivals Coca-Cola for sales on its home turf.

True, it looks like something you could strip paint off with but one has to admire any plucky local that squares up to international brands. Plus, their ads are always (adopts ropey Glaswegian accent) pure dead brilliant. ‘Tis the season to appreciate their irreverent take on The Snowman
